Mudgeeraba Aquatics Centre (Design Consultation)
This scheme draws inspiration from the Alhambra in Granada and the Orange Grove in the centre of Seville and seeks to provide a sense of destination within the undefined plain. Specific connections from inside the complex are allowed through controlled views to the landscape beyond. A singular roof surrounds the pool deck, and overhead wires allow for movable shade cloth canopies to be provided over the pool and interactive play area. The scheme has a clear material strategy, juxtaposing solid and glowing volumes. The Danpalon roof and walls are contrasted with the limewashed concrete block walls.
